On Sat 4Dec04
there was a good turn out of around 38 members for the important AGM,
Prize Giving and End of Season Party. Mike Baker gave an excellent
report on the vast amount of work done around the club, particularly by
Bodgitt & Son. All the committee members were re-elected,
Stuart Schafer joins the social committee.
Charles
Dennis won the majority of the Trophies and he also provided a
magnificent new trophy for the best improved helm; presented to Bryan
Clements whose Personal Handicap has come down from 50 to 4.
The evening finished with a buffet and delicious
mulled wine by Joan Garrett.

there was an excellent turn out of 23 members for the End Of Season

there will an End Of Season work party to include tidy up all areas and
secure the moorings for the winter. Lunch will be provided.
On Sat 20Nov04
the Annual Dinner was attended by over 40 members and guests and was
very enjoyable. We all had a thoroughly good evening with good food,
good company and good fun and the more athletic of us danced into the
early hours. Our ladies appreciated the new caterers providing the

Although there
was a light drizzle, from the time the 20 members left Richard Cannon’s
house for the Kempton firework display until they arrived back there,
it didn’t spoil the excellent fireworks display.FI
While members
were enjoying the display Diana and Peter Carpenter, Bob Sumners and
Janet were slaving away preparing soup, sausage & mash, pies,
sausage rolls and real coffee from the new Expresso coffee machine (a
big improvement over instant coffee} for the social back at the club
house; there were over 30 members and friends there.
The Next event on Saturday 6 November will be a club visit to the Kempton Park
firework display, one of the largest in the area, followed by a social
at the Club with hot food available.

The Next event is “A Taste of Italy” on Saturday 9 October at 8 pm, instead of the
advertised Oriental Evening.
This
will be a special evening hosted by Gus and Eunice Colletta with a sit
down meal accompanied by Italian music at the Club House.

August Bank Holiday 27-28 August 2004
Nothing is organised for AQSC on Saturday or
Sunday 26-27 August; there is not
a visit to Bewl on Saturday or Sunday
or racing organised at AQSC on Sunday.
AQSC
members will be supporting a Signet Open Meeting at Littleton SC on
Sunday and there will be an awayday to the Bewl Water Regatta on Monday
for all members.

23Aug04 Weed
has become a major problem extending to over a boat length from the
bank and even clumps in the middle. Extreme vigilance is need to keep
the foils clear of weed. The safety boat even became disabled with weed
on the propeller. Picture

On 17Jul04 eleven
members, and a tourist who joined us, enjoyed a boat trip from Tower
Bridge to Greenwich with a guided tour. Although it was wet at the
start the rain cleared up for the rest of the day.
On Saturday 17 July 2004 a guided stroll round historic Greenwich.
Aquarius
Sailing Club has booked our own guide to take us on stroll round
Greenwich. We meet the guide at Tower Hill Underground Station at 11am,
main exit (street level). Then we take the boat up the Thames to
Greenwich, we are taken on a walking tour of approximately 2-3
hours.
After
which we can please ourselves maybe have lunch in a pub or a picnic
lunch. Walk round the market, visit the Cutty Sark, go to the
Observatory - whatever takes your fancy.
The
cost of the tour is £5.50 per person and £3 for the boat trip. If you

The Regatta on
19-20
June generally had very light and variable winds except at times in the
last race it was strong and gusty during heavy showers. New member
Regina Tam won the Ladies and Novice cups.
The BBQ on 19
June had the best attendance for many years. Fortunately the weather
was fine for a very enjoyable event.
On Saturday 19Jun04
come and support the Aquarius Regatta (programme) followed by a Jazz/BBQ evening (details). The
Regatta continues on Sunday.
The Hampton SC Regatta 12-13May
was supported by 6 AQSC boats; Charles Dennis was 3rd in the Laser
Class and Richard Cannon 3rd in the Handicap Class. The wind was very
light and extremely variable and fluky.
The Hampton Sailing Club Regatta is on Saturday & Sunday 12-13
June. All AQSC members are invited; there is no organised racing at
AQSC on Sunday. The AQSC safety boat will be leaving at 10:00 Saturday
and Sunday to escort members sailing to Hampton.
The Bewl Visit 30-31May
had brilliant weather. More
The next event
from 29 to 31 May 2004 is a visit to Bewl Water in Kent. There is
cruising on Saturday and Sunday (Sunday is normal Bewl Club racing),
and Monday is the Bewl Spring Open Regatta with allcomers handicap
racing. There is NO camping at the
club. It is ESSENTIAL that anyone thinking of going rings Richard

Aquarius Sailing Club Open Weekend
8 and 9 May 2004 10:30am to 5:00pm
Have you ever fancied trying sailing? Here’s your
chance.
Come to Aquarius, have a tea or coffee, and then
go afloat with an experienced helm in a racing dinghy; it’s all free.
No
experience needed; just bring some spare clothes and soft shoes. If you
enjoy it you can join at an annual full membership fee of only £48; the joining
fee is waived.

On Saturday 1 May 2004 6 AQSC boats, a total of 24, were at the Staines
Sailing Club for the Mid Thames Trophy inter-club
event. Unfortunately there was a 3 knt current and hardly any wind (1
to 3mph at Heathrow). Charles Dennis went out in his Laser to test the
conditions and just drifted downstream. After an excellent lunch there
was no option but to cancel the event; it will be held on Saturday 11
September.
The Next event on
Saturday 1 May 2004 is the Mid Thames

The Dinghy Drive on
24 April was enjoyed by 21 members.
The Next Social event
on Saturday 24 April 2004 at 8pm is a Dinghy Drive, devised by Bob
Sumners based on a beatle drive, compared by Diana Carpenter. Food is
£3 per head.
We are sad to
announce the death, on 23rd April 2004, of Margaret Rogers who was a
much loved and valued member of Aquarius.
Maggie
was a member for some 20 years and served as Social Secretary from 1988
to 1993. Her enthusiasm and dedication inspired us all and even after
her “term of office” ended she enjoyed lending a hand; one of our
fondest memories must be of Maggie presiding over the barbecue on our
annual Jazz Night celebrations.
She will be sadly missed and our deepest
condolences go to Mike, Mark, Kevin, Steven and all their family.
On Wednesday 21 April 04
there were 7 members at the Club, but rather than sail in the
threatening rain there was a very productive afternoon working on the
store room, the gents changing room and installing a new refrigerator
in the kitchen.
Organised sailing on
Wednesday afternoons started on 7th April; racing or other events will
start at 4pm. If you are available why not come along and join us.
The Next Social event on Sat 27 March 2004 is the Start of Season Party
If you enjoyed
the entertainment by Pat Halling and Mike Leigh at the Valentine party
you can hear Pat again on Sunday 14 March 2004 at 5pm.
Entitled "Jim Hughes and Friends" this concert
will be held at the River House Barn, Manor Road, Walton-on-Thames.
Harmonica
virtuoso Jim (you probably heard him playing the signature tune to
"Last of the Summer Wine") will be playing with the Quartet Pro Musica.
The programme includes your all-time favourites. It is highly
recommended by Rodger Wheeler.

Saturday 28 Feb 04
was bitterly cold but that didn’t deter a superb attendance of 21
members at the pre-start of season working party. More Lunch
was provided and tasks includede clearing weeds and growth etc along
the boat berths and in the trailer park. Members came along in stout
old cloths and gloves, with gardening equipment like cutters, loppers
and saws etc. There was also be cleaning and painting.
The “Valetine's Musical 
Diner Dansant” on February 14 was one of the best evening
events ever held at the club. More It was organised by Rodger Wheeler with
help from other gentlemen, especially for the ladies in the club.
The Aquarius 2004 social programme
got underway to a roaring start with 21 members enjoying a quiz
night on 24Jan04. Mike Baker set many devilish questions and we had a
fish and chip supper in the interval.
