On Saturday 7 December 2002 the AQSC AGM elected Mike Baker as our commodore and there were a few other committee changes. Madeline Hatton presented the prizes for Richard Cannon. The End of Season Party was great with delicious home made soup (recipe) by Linda Wheeler, mulled wine by Joan Garrett, and a selection of hot and cold food by Joan Bray.
The Trophies Winners 2000- has been updated.

On Saturday 7 December 2002 the AQSC AGM, Prize Giving, and End of Season Party, with free food, will start at 8:00pm. All members are asked to come along and support their Club.

On 23Nov2002 an extremely successful and enjoyable Annual dinner was held in the Clubhouse with 43 members and guests attending. More

17Nov2002 was the last sunday for scheduled racing this year but unfortunately the recent heavy rain caused a 4knt current and there was no possibility of sailing for the 2nd consecutive Sunday; even the rowers weren't out. Laurie Bridges sawed up a very large tree trunk that had been pulled out of the river a couple of weeks ago. Rodger Wheeler worked on the display lights & got them working for next week's dinner at the club. Others prepared their boats for the winter.

02Nov2002 was a very wet day when 18 members and friends met at Richard Cannon's house to walk to the Kempton Park firework display; amazingly the rain stop just as they started the walk and an excellent display was enjoyed. Fifteen members then went to the Club for a social with sausage, chips and beans prepared by Rodger, Linda and Diana.

On 2 November there will be a club visit to the Kempton Park firework display, one of the largest in the area, followed by a social at the Club with hot food provided.

On Saturday October 12th sixteen members and friends had a great time at a Murder Mystery evening devised by Janet and Bob. Half way through there was a supper including soup and jacket potatoes.

On Saturday October 12th Janet and Bob invite you all to our Murder Mystery evening . Come and enjoy an evening of 'who done it' where' and of course 'how' let your hair down but not your guard and have a good old laugh. supper includes soup and jacket potatoes. Start time 8pm prompt.

Fish & ChipsThe Fish & Chips Supper on Saturday 14Sep was a great social evening enjoyed by 21 members. George & Joan Bray presented a 'Count Down' session while waiting for the fish & chips to be collected by Diana & Peter Carpenter. The evening concluded with a quiz devised by George.

There is a Fish & Chips Supper with a mystery quiz on Saturday 14Sept. Starting time is 8pm and food orders are required by 8:30pm. Come along and enjoy a great social evening.

5Sep2002 The Aquarius Sailing Club now has its own Internet domain name of sailaquarius.org.uk. The web site hasn't changed and the existing address will remain for the foreseeable future.

Most committee officer posts have an E-mail address like commodore@, secretary@, and sailing@ prefixing the new domain name; if the holder of a post doesn't have their own E-mail address it is redirected to the webmaster.

If members have items for sale or wanted they could be added to the web site by E-mailing webmaster@sailaquarius.org.uk

1Sep02 There was a very light patchy wind for the Signet Open Meeting at Littleton SC and weed was a menace. Keith Hatton crewed by Mike Baker was 3rd and Robert Britton crewed by Richard Cannon was 4th.

More on BewlFrom 24 to 26 August 2002 there is a visit to Bewl Water. There is cruising on Saturday, normal Bewl Club racing Sunday, and Monday is the Bewl Regatta with short course racing. This time there is NO camping at the club but a few tent pitches have been reserved at Cedar Gables

AQSC won the team trophy at the the SigneT National Championships held at Rutland Water from 4-9 August. There was very little wind and a lot of the wet stuff most of the time. Richard Cannon & Robert Britton in ST368 dominated the event to take 1st place. Keith Hatton & Mike Baker in ST858 were 7th, Laurie Bridges & Michael Stevens in ST856 were 10th. More

28Jul2002 The mini Open Day for people who registered an interest at the Royal Picnic was a big success. 12 visitors were taken out between races, crewing in races, or taken out in the safety boat. We expect to gain 4 new members from the hard work by everyone involved,

On Sunday 28 July there is a mini Open Day with people who registered an interest at the Royal Picnic invited to the club; any one else is also welcome to visit us and experience dinghy sailing. Normal club racing will still take place.

On Saturday 20 July the next social is a visit to Wisley Gardens. Meet in the car park at mid-day for a picnic lunch followed by a gentle stroll in the surrounding countryside. There will be a visit to Wisley Gardens late afternoon for those wishing to participate.

Once again Bewl Water provided excellent weather and sailing to Aquarius members over the Spring holiday. More

The Aquarius Jazz/BBQ is on Saturday evening 29 June, tickets £7.50/£5 (Adult/child); save £1 by booking in advance with Madeline on 020 8546 9937. The Regatta is on 29 & 30 June. Programme

On Tuesday 25 June the Queen is coming to a Jubilee picnic held in Bushy Park from 11:30 am to 4:00 pm. AQSC have applied for a display area and expect to be displaying the Club Pico.

The Hampton Sailing Club Regatta is on Saturday & Sunday 15-16 June. All AQSC members are invited; there is no organised racing at AQSC on Sunday. The AQSC safety boat will be leaving at 10:00 Saturday and Sunday to escort members sailing to Hampton.

There is a visit to Bewl Water from 1-4 June 2002. Sunday is normal Bewl racing, Monday is the Spring Regatta , and Tuesday is a Junior Regatta. Unfortunately there is NO Camping at the sailing club although campervans can use the car park.

The Right Royal Cheese & Wine party on 25 May was very successful and enjoyed by 25 members. More Cheese & Wine

On Saturday 25May at 8pm, just before the Jubilee, there is a 'Right Royal Cheese & Wine' social event at the Club. Eat, drink and be merry. Try a wide range of wines and cheeses. All for only £3.

The weather was poor for the Saturday Open day but much better for Sunday 19 May Open day when members were kept very busy with visitors. More

Come and try sailingSaturday and Sunday 18-19 May are the Open Weekend for the Aquarius Sailing Club from 10 am to 5 pm. Visitors are invited to the Club to try out sailing at no cost and see the facilities. Members are asked to come and assist giving our visitors a rewarding visit. Poster

The SigneT Open Meeting has been moved foreward a week from Sunday 7 Jul to Sunday 14 July at the request of the SCOA. The Spring 9 and Summer 1 series races have been moved from the 14 July to 7 July.

Five Aquarius boats took part in the Mid-Thames Trophy event held at Desborough SC on Monday 6May. More

Monday 6th May is a Club away day to Desborough SC for the Mid-Thames Trophy event. All members are invited. There is no organised sailing at the Club on Sunday. More

On 7Apr2002 there was an excellent E 3-4 wind for the first of the Sunday Race Series. Conditions were ideal for sailing upstream so it was decided to also hold the Cundy long distance race. More

Thefts from Club, Security Alert

Captain Chaos and Captain Calm welcome you to an evening of Maritime Mayhem aboard the good ship Aquarius.
Plenty of food and grog will be available as we sail through the evening.
We set sail on Saturday 27th April at 8pm so come and join us for a fun night.

A reminder that the Start of Season Party is on Saturday 23 March at 8pm. Come and meet all your friends and get the Season off with a swing. Good food, entertainment and great conversation. So come on, shake a leg and have a break from that box in the corner.

On Saturday 16 March at 11am there will be a working party at the Club to help with tasks preparing for the start of the new sailing season that is approaching rapidly. A free lunch will be provided to all helpers; please E--mail aquarius.sc@ukgateway.net, or let a committee member know, ASAP if you intend to help so that the catering arrangements can be arranged.

On Satuday 23Feb2002 at 8:00pm come and let your hair down at the Aquarius Stakes Social evening. Food along the lines of French bread, cheese, soup and jacket potato for £1.

19Mar2002 The Spring 2002 Mainsheet Aquarius newsletter has been posted and a version is online.

On Saturday 16 March there was an excellent response to the working party at the Club. 19 members turned up and many tasks were competed. Diana Carpenter provided a superb lunch. More

The Race Duty Roster for 2002 is on line. Could you please check your dates; if any are not suitable please arrange a swap and let Richard Cannon know with the details ASP so changes can be made before paper copies are printed.

Members expecting Aquarius Stakes on Saturday 23 Feb should have gone to Kempton Park. I had forgotten that it had been changed to Pictionary compared by Maggie Rodgers. Around 23 members and friends had a hilarius time drawing on the blackboard to represent words, selected from a card according to the roll of a dice, that members of the teams had to identify. There was a break for the usual excellent food.

The Sailing and Social Program for 2002 is available on line. Please note that the Start Of Season Party has moved to the 23March and the the Fun race has move to the morning with the main series races both in the afternoon.

WARNING - On 16Jan Maggie Futcher had her brand new Byte dinghy stolen from outside her house in Acton, London. It has a White hull with a blue flash down the side with spars on a combi trailer and a blue under cover and top cover. The Boat number is 1657, it had no name or other identifiable features except that it had triple cleats fitted on each side of the deck.

27Jan2002 Yesterday there was an excellent start to the new year with 24 members enjoying a Trivial Pursuit Quiz social evening. More
