Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

24 December There will not support at the club on New Years Eve and the bar will be closed on Wednesday 27 December.

On Wedneday 20 December there will be seasonal nibbles, hosted by Rodger Wheeler, from 19:00. Do come and join us for a bit of Christmas cheer.

17 December There is still negligible current and the weather forecast is for a SW 7 to 10 mph wind; a temperature of 5oC with showers. Unfortunately I am unable to be at AQSC. if anyone wants to go to AQSC and have tea and cakes or other support please ring the Secretary on 020 8337 1568.

On Sunday 10 December the Cheats Christmas lunch is at 12:30pm; there will also be family games; details.

Sunday 3 December looks as if it will be suitable for sailing and I will there and will need assistances from volunteers.

On Saturday 2 December at 7:30pm there is the important AGM, prize giving and End of Season Party. Notice and details, agenda, questionaire.

Sunday 26 November promises to be sunny but chilly with light wind. Again great for informal boat handling so you are especially invited along to develop your power boat skills on Aquarius and Tern. The barbeque will be called upon to produce mouth watering Burgers, the bar ready to quench your thirst and the afternoon tea cake will have the Hon Sec touch.

19 November Although the scheduled sailing season has ended there will continue to be Sunday sailing while conditions are suitable; we haven't had prolonged heavy rain so the river doesn't have much current. The weather forecast is fine, 8C, 8 mph WNW wind so it should be suitable for sailing. I will be available for OOD, from 10:30, and Mike and Jean have volunteered for AOD, Patrol boat, BBQ and cakes.

12 November Although the scheduled sailing season has ended there will continue to be Sunday sailing while conditions are suitable. The BBQ is available but Pat Irving won't be around so it will be DIY. I should be available for OOD; I will need volunteers for AOD and Patrol boat. This Sunday there will be sailing after the clear up following the Annual dinner. The forecast is for it to be fine, but cold, with a 12-15 mph NW wind.

11 November Annual Dinner in the Clubhouse 7.30pm for 8.00pm. £30 per head for members and £35 per head for guests.  Professionally catered by "Food for Thought" Booking essential; by 5 November. Menu and booking form.

Traffic Advisory 5–15 November

Please note that the A308 between the Hampton Court roundabout and Hampton will be closed for resurfacing between 8:00pm to 5:00am on 5 – 15 November. The road will however be open over weekends. Members needing to get South of the river are advised to go via Teddington/Kingston Bridge or via the Walton Bridge.

On October 28 Working Party 10.30 - 16.00. There will be a free late lunch for the workers. In addition to the usual tidying of the boat berths, water front and the entrance drive we will be erecting the "winter quarters" on the quarter deck. On Saturday 16 September the program scheduled DIY BBQ has been replaced by a Tramps & Trollope’s dinner Evening; booking form.

Members are encouraged to enter the 21st Mid-Thames Trophy inter-club fun event (Aquarius, Desborough, Hampton, Island Barn, and Staines) at Hampton SC. Registration, Coffee lunch and tea will be £10. Poster, NOR (Notice Of Race). The first race is at 11:00; allow plenty of time to rig, the patrol boat will leave AQSC at 10:00. Please support this important event to help AQSC regain the Trophy; it is not suitable for novice helm but crewing is OK. Please let Richard Cannon know on 01932 786636 if you expect to come and if you need a crewing position.

On Saturday 12 August there is a trip to the Sunbury Regatta Illuminated sail past and fireworks display preceded by a DIY BBQ from 18:00. Bring your own supper or buy burgers and buns, and cook it on the clubs BBQ. The patrol boats will leave the club at 20:15 for the cruise up to Sunbury and will return about 22:30. Book places by entering your name on the form near the bar or ring Richard on 01932 786636. 12 went in 2 patrol boats (Richard C, Joan W, Mike H 2, Andrea M 2, Liz A, Houram ? 2+2, Bryan C).  

On 28-30 July many roads will be closed for the Prudential RideLondon and accessing AQSC from South of the river will probably be very difficult.

On Saturday 15 July there is our annual Hog Roast and buffet.  This is definitely a not to be missed event but numbers will be limited so get your bookings in as soon as possible; must be by Wednesday 12 July. A dry evening is assured as it takes place under our marquee.  Only £10 for entertainment, great food and a well-stocked bar, what more could you want; details and booking form.

As Sunday 2 July is the first Sunday of the month there is a newcomers event at 13:30; Nigel Knowles will present  "Capsize Theory & Practice". Afterwards there will be the opportunity to practice Capsize recovery. Capsizing is a normal part of sailing dinghies and all members should have practiced recovery so a capsize doesn;t come as a shock.

On Wednesday 28 June there is our traditional Mid Summer Cruise to The Weir Hotel. The plan is to sail or motor up through Sunbury Lock for a meal, returning around dusk to AQSC for a night cap. Members can travel by any means including canoes, row boats, dinghies, power boats or cars; boats leave at 6:00pm. Naturally the most fun is the mix of craft on the river and both our patrol boats, Aquarius and Tern will be going. To book a place in them use the form in the bar or contact Richard Cannon (01932 786636). Note: Anyone planning to come by road should be aware that the Weir Hotel stops taking food orders at 9:00pm.

On Saturday 18 June & Sunday 19 June there is the Aquarius Regatta. Primarily this annual event is about everybody getting together for a fun weekend at The Club; details.

On Saturday there is no racing in the morning or BBQ burgers lunch time. There are 2 Regatta Trophy races in the afternoon

On Sunday there are 2 Regatta Trophy races in the morning, BBQ burgers, Ladies & Novice Trophy race, President’s Novelty event, fun & games. Strawberry cream tea.

Newcomers are welcome to come and crew for experienced helms. It’s a great way to get introduced to racing and to learn what it’s all about. Even if you prefer cruising it would be great to have you join in.

As Sunday 4 June is the first Sunday of the month there is a Newcomers event. At 1:30 pm there will be a talk by Rodger Wheeler on “Patrol boat handling & rendering assistance". At 2 pm there will be practice helming the patrol boat. Everyone is welcome to come along and have a go.

Sunday 28 May – Training and Fun Sailing together with boat demos for new members. It forms an extension to the Open Weekend rounding out the RYA’s Push the Boat Out programme. Anyone who came to our open days and would like another go is especially welcome.

Saturday/Sunday 20/21 May – AQSC Open Weekend (in conjunction with the ) This is a major recruitment opportunity and your Management Committee would like to see as many of you as possible at the club. We especially need helms with two handed dinghies to take visitors out on the water, galley staff and people to meet and greet visitors, supply information about the club and show them around. This is a classic “ask not what your club can do for you but what you can do for your club” moment.

On Saturday 13 May at 10:30am there is a work party. This is aimed at getting the club in order for the Open Weekend RYA video.

Nigel will no doubt have a list of jobs to be done and there will be a late lunch for the workers. We also need to prepare the dinghy that will be going to the Chestnut Sunday event the following day. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Chestnut Sunday 14 May – Although this is a normal sailing day at AQSC we will have a stand, and a dinghy, at the Bushy Park event. Anyone who came spare some time to help out on the stand and promote the club should contact Pete Carpenter on 020 8393 8029.

As Sunday 7 May is the first Sunday of the month there will be a Newcomers event. At 1:30 pm there will be a talk by Graham Thompson on  Sailing Faster.

On Saturday 22nd April join us for an Italian flavoured dinner and entertainment evening; details.

The Easter Egg Trophy is On Sunday 16 April. 4 races, 3 races to count for the Easter Egg prizes. Details

As Sunday 2 April is the first Sunday in the month there will be a “Newcomers Event”; at 13:30 Nigel Knowles will talk on “Introduction to Rules and Racing

On Sunday 26 March the 2017 season racing starts. The new Sunrise series starts at the earlier time of 11:00 and the Spring series starts at 12:00. Note BST starts so the clocks go forward; don’t be late.

Saturday 18th March Start of Season Party and buffet 7:30 pm. Rodney Hogg will give an illustrated talk on climbing mount Everest.

Sunday 12th March - Working Party from 10:30am.  We hope to see as many of you that can make it for this work party. Plan is to spruce up the place prior to the start of season. Nigel will supply a list of a few straightforward jobs to be done  (even though he is unable to be there himself) and Deborah Lea has kindly offered to supply lunch for the workers. See you there!

Sunday 26th February - Commodore's Cruise 11-30am  - We anticipate cruising primarily upstream in the safety boats, with some questions in the form of a treasure hunt. Don Barnett has also offered rides on his boat, especially if the weather is still cold.  Ann and I are planning a lunch in the clubhouse at around 2pm. There'll be a few general quiz questions available too.

Lunch will cost a mere £2.50 per head and will include a simple desert. To determine numbers to be catered for please advise John and Ann Botterill on 020 8391 1079 by Wednesday 22 February.

On Saturday 11 February the gentlemen will be PUTTING ON THE RITZ 7pm.

On Wednesday 25 January there is a traditional Burnes Night celebration at 7:30pm.
