Chris was a lifelong small boat sailor – predominantly at club level but he did win the Yeoman (small keelboat) class national championship in 1990 with Matt Hubbard who is now an Aquarius member.

Chris got involved in judging and race management in the early 1970s and also in club management about that time, also becoming Treasurer and flag officer (including Commodore twice) at Queen Mary SC 1972 – 1998, and represented the Thames Valley Region on RYA Council 1985 – 89, becoming the Hon Treasurer of the RYA 1989 – 1994.


Chris started match race umpiring in 1988 (and later team racing as well): A National Umpire in 1992 – to the present; and an International Umpire 1994 – 2010.

Currently, he’s also a National Judge (since 1993) and a National Race Officer (since 1995).

He was an International Judge 1993 – 2015 and an International Race Officer 2001 – 2004.  From 1995 – 2010 he umpired at 60+ Grade 1 and World Tour events (about 15 as Chief Umpire).
